Prior to your 1:1 appointment, we encourage you to attend one of our events, such as an information session or open house, for an overview of the program and its opportunities. Please come to your 1:1 prepared to ask questions! All events and appointments are in EASTERN TIME.
We welcome students from all professional and academic backgrounds, however there are prerequisites for admission:
- MSDS Online and Residential - Calculus II, Linear Algebra, Statistics, and Programming*
- Ph.D. - Calculus III, Linear Algebra, Statistics, and Programming*
*Python preferred, though additional programming languages may be helpful. You may detail your programming experience on the application.
Graduate Admissions Advising Appointments
M.S. in Data Science - Online
The 32-credit M.S. in Data Science Online
is 100% remote with virtual classes that meet
once per week in the evening. The 20-month
program has two classes across five semesters.

M.S. in Data Science - Residential
The 32-credit M.S. in Data Science Residential
is in-person in Charlottesville, VA. The 11-month
program is full-time across three semesters,
starting in June and ending in May.

Ph.D. in Data Science
The Ph.D. program is a research doctorate degree that uses cutting-edge methods for learning from data or the impact of data-driven decisions on society. It is full-time and in-person, fully-funded, not-a-direct match program.
