A Clinical Nurse Leader is a master’s educated nurse prepared for practice in any healthcare setting. Developed by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing in collaboration with leaders from healthcare practice and education, CNLs enter the profession as beginner nurses but tend to rise faster and earn more, leading at the bedside, on the unit, and in healthcare systems because of all they bring to the table. CNLs are also well-suited for on-unit leadership positions that develop and deploy evidence-based practice unit improvements to strengthen healthcare quality and efficiency, staff retention and collaboration, and improve patient care and satisfaction.
