At a time when many bedside nurses are looking for a change, the need for nurse scientists, researchers, and professors to nurture the next generation of nurses has never been greater.  Whatever your background or goals, our goal is to nurture exceptional nurses like you to follow your curiosities and forge change beyond the bedside and unit with work in the lab, with students at the head of the classroom, in the boardroom, through legislation, government, and beyond.

Our PhD program prepares students for careers as scholars, nurse scientists and academics and to contribute to nursing science, knowledge, theory and practice through systematic inquiry.

By graduation, PhD students will:

• demonstrate advanced knowledge of nursing, related sciences and humanities, and methods of inquiry
• expand the research base of nursing theory and practice
• serve the Commonwealth, the nation and the world by addressing major nursing and health care issues in a scholarly manner
